Ivan Trowbridge, age 68, of Wolsey, died Wednesday, April 13, 2016, at his residence. His funeral service was held at 10 AM, Tuesday, April 19th at Riverview United Methodist Church with burial at the Virgil Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society or HRMC Hospice.
Ivan Trowbridge was born September 10, 1947, to Calvin and Letha (Rubendall) Trowbridge, at Huron, South Dakota. He graduated from Huron High School in 1966 and attended drafting school in Minneapolis. He then worked at a cosmetic distribution center in Minneapolis until 1970 when he returned to Huron.
On June 28, 1975, Ivan married Marie Kathleen Christiansen at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Miller.
Ivan worked for Huron Dressed Beef, and Larry Frey doing carpentry work. He then worked for Lampert Lumber followed by Peavey Lumber and UBC. He then worked for Curtis Industries and then for Farmers Cashway Lumber. In his “free time” he worked for the City golf courses and the Plains Bowling Alley. He retired at the age of 62.
Ivan was active in supporting the High School Rodeo, 4-H Rodeo and received the Friend of Rodeo award in 2013. He enjoyed bowling and was named the 2011 Huron USBC Life Member. He was also the State Senior Bowling Champion. Ivan liked fishing, golfing and watching the Minnesota Twins and Minnesota Vikings. He loved going to the car races at Dakota State Fair Speedway every Saturday night. Ivan had thirty-six years of sobriety.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife, Marie of Wolsey; his four children, Christopher (Sarah May) Trowbridge, Chad (Emily Montoya) Trowbridge, Casey Trowbridge and Viola (Phil Billen) Trowbridge, all of Huron; six grandchildren, Ashton Trowbridge, Luke Eckhardt, Mikaela Trowbridge, Gabriel and Sophia Montoya, and Lilly May; and three sisters, Rea Struble of Westfield, Indiana, Iris Nicholas of West Haven, Utah, and Inez (Bob) Muilenburg of Huron.Download and Print
